During menopause, some women notice that their body odor changes. It’s not about hygiene, but rather… about hormones.
Why does it change?
Estrogen influences our sweat glands, which are responsible for producing sweat. When estrogen levels drop, the composition of sweat changes… and so does its smell. Menopause can also alter the skin’s microbiome: the bacteria living on the skin’s surface change, which affects the odor produced.
What you may notice:
- Feeling that your body odor is different
- Clothing that smells more quickly or is harder to keep fresh
- Discomfort or embarrassment in close contact with others
- The feeling that you “don’t smell like you used to”
What can help:
- Wash regularly with a mild, skin-friendly soap
- Choose a suitable deodorant, preferably alcohol-free
- Wear loose-fitting clothing made from natural materials
- Drink enough water every day
- Eat a balanced diet with fresh, varied foods
- Learn to manage stress
Do you recognize yourself in this? You’re not alone. And you can learn to adapt to these changes, step by step.
