Itching

Itching… without explanation?

During menopause, some women feel tingling, pulling sensations, and a sudden urge to scratch.

Why does it itch?

When estrogen levels drop, the skin changes. It becomes drier, thinner, less elastic.

Why? Because estrogens help produce collagen and natural oils and maintain good hydration.

Less estrogen = weakened skin barrier → the skin reacts, itches, feels tight.

Where does it itch?
Almost everywhere:

  • Arms, legs
  • Neck, back
  • Sometimes intimate areas

The urge to scratch can become obsessive. (Oh yes, you have to experience it to understand…😩)
Even at night.

Other possible causes:

  • Hot flashes → sweating → dry skin
  • Stress → the skin reacts more
  • Changes in cosmetic products
  • Dry air
  • Irritating clothing

Some useful tips for relief:

  • Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer every day
  • Take lukewarm showers, not hot ones
  • Use mild soap
  • Wear cotton clothing
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Do not scratch (or at least try not to 😅)

Do you recognize yourself?
You are not alone.

By now you can see that menopause isn’t “just” a hormonal phase.

It has a thousand faces…
And we’ll keep exploring them together—tomorrow already with symptom 23.
