Loss of confidence

Chantal Van der Brempt
52

During menopause, many women feel their self-confidence waver.
Hormonal, physical, and emotional changes often shake the image one has of oneself.
And it’s not just a passing impression — for many, it’s a reality.

Why less confidence during menopause?

Estrogens and progesterone also influence our mood and emotions.

→ When their levels drop, one may feel more vulnerable, more irritable
The body changes: shape, skin, hair…
→ Not to mention the gaze of others or age-related stereotypes

All this can make you doubt your worth or your self-image.

What you may feel:

  • Less sure of yourself in certain situations
  • Feeling like you no longer recognize yourself
  • Doubts about your appearance or worth
  • Sadness or loss of motivation
  • Desire to withdraw into yourself

Ways to regain confidence:

  • Take care of yourself every day, with kindness
  • Learn to spot that little inner voice that puts you down. Talk to yourself as you would to a friend: gently and kindly
  • Move your body: sport, dance, walking…
  • Surround yourself with people who make you feel good
  • Set small goals and celebrate when you achieve them
  • Explore new (or old) passions, reconnect with what makes you feel alive

Do you recognize yourself?
You are not alone.

You haven’t “lost” your confidence.
It changes, it transforms…
And little by little, you will adapt… and rediscover yourself in a new way.
