Night sweats

Do you wake up drenched, sometimes several times a night? Do you change pajamas, shiver, and feel empty when you wake up?
These may be night sweats. Very common during menopause, they’re linked to hormonal variations that throw off our internal “thermostat.”

What is it?

Night sweats are hot flashes… while you sleep.
You sweat a lot, for no clear reason, sometimes several times per night.
And it’s exhausting.

Why does it happen?

When estrogen drops, the hypothalamus — the temperature control center — goes into overdrive.
Result: your body thinks it’s too hot… and triggers sweating to cool down, even if you’re cool under the covers.

What you may feel:

  • Waking up sweaty
  • Shivering right after
  • Difficulty falling back asleep
  • Tiredness first thing in the morning
  • Sometimes night-time anxiety

Tips that can help:

  • Breathable pajamas and fresh bedding
  • Bedroom at max 18°C (64°F)
  • Move your body
  • Less coffee, alcohol and sugar
  • Manage stress
  • Discuss (often the most effective remedy): tailored hormone therapy (BHRT)

Do you recognize yourself?
You’re not alone.

Welcome to the (not yet official) club — already pretty full 😜.
The good news: with a few targeted tips, your nights can become calmer again.
